SpendPreflight vs the CDP x402 validator

Use Coinbase’s validator for its discovery-configuration diagnostics. Use SpendPreflight for complementary observations and explicit risk or spending rules.

By SpendPreflight, the operator of the products compared here. Reviewed October 28, 2026 from the linked primary sources. This is a documentation comparison, not an independent benchmark or endorsement. We did not run competitors’ tools or buy their services for this article.

What Coinbase’s validator does

The official Validate x402 endpoint API probes a seller URL live, reports preflight checks and a simulated facilitator acceptance decision. The input includes the resource URL and method. Coinbase states that this operation performs no payment and does not index the resource.

Its seller guide describes validation as a free, no-API-key check. It also says validation does not check the metadata content policy; an endpoint can pass technical validation and still not be listed. The API reference’s generic example includes an Authorization header, so follow the current seller guide and reference rather than inferring an access requirement from that example alone.

What SpendPreflight adds

Free x402 Lint inspects an unpaid public challenge, supplies heuristic listing wording findings and passive security coverage, and provides a dated share report and Action workflow. These heuristics are our published checks, not Coinbase’s private screening rules or a certification that a listing will be admitted.

Quote Check compares exact supplied quote terms with usable cached evidence. Payee Screening and spend-rule preflight address separate counterparty and budget questions. Our service never signs, settles or moves the target payment under review.

Use both without confusing the results

Start with Coinbase’s documented validator when diagnosing CDP discovery configuration. Review our Lint report when you want a second, clearly scoped view of public challenge and metadata observations. Use controlled tests on a server you own to evaluate settlement and replay behavior; see the x402-conformance comparison.

valid: true, a passing Lint badge, and a low heuristic risk score are not promises of Bazaar admission, policy certification, sanctions clearance or paid delivery. Keep the URL, method, time, evidence source and unknown areas with your result.
